Living with compulsive hoarding is one of the hardest conditions facing individuals and families today.  The social stigma associated with the disorder, due to sensationalism by the media and lack of information, lead most to hide away overwhelmed by fear and shame.  The hoarder's life becomes increasing difficult the longer the underlying cause goes untreated and can negatively affect every aspect of his or her life.  Consequently, the following become further hindrances to seeking out help.

Increased stress
Family fighting
Loss of close relationships

Depression

Isolation
Credit/ financial problems
Low self-esteem
Poor hygiene
Chronic health problems
Job performance issues or loss of job

The good news is that over the last several years, the medical and social service communities have begun to research the possible causes of hoarding resulting in a vast network of professionals throughout the country who understand the compulsions and emotions associated with keeping all that clutter.   We are one of those professional organizations.  We understand.  We don't judge.  We are here to help reclaim lives, one item, one inch at a time.  This is our specialty and comprises the majority of our clientele.  We have seen everything.  You are not alone.

Step One

Ready to get started?  The first step in our process is to meet with the homeowner/hoarder(client) and any other parties s/he requests.  We have worked with:

Hoarders who have contacted us directly
Adult children of hoarders
Families with children
Mental Health Workers
Social Workers
Landlords
Friends

Municipalities

In our experience, it is most beneficial if the client chooses a trusted friend or relative to accompany them along this journey, in addition to a specialized mental health professional.  During the initial meeting we:

Assess the living conditions
Identify the type* of hoarding
Evaluate the client's thought processes/
emotions as they relate to the hoarding
Discuss the client's long and short-term goals
Provide our initial thoughts on how we can help him/her reach those goals.

Step Two

After our meeting, we prepare a detailed plan customized to the unique needs and desires of the client, including:

Written Hoarding Assessment
A step-by-step guide to our process
*
Written Cost Proposal
Copy of our contract for review

This is provided at no cost or obligation.  We thoroughly review these documents with the client and his/her interested parties, answering questions and addressing any concerns, ensuring that there is an atmosphere of open communication before  any agreement to proceed is made.  It is imperative to us that our clients have the utmost confidence and trust in our character and ethics if we are to work together.

  Step Three

After review, if the client commits to the process and chooses to continue with NJDespres Enterprises, we will sign contracts and get started!    It is as easy as that!
